Hostetler & Ludwig is a wood studio and CNC manufacturing facility in Athens, Ohio.
Jay spent 46 years at Stewart-MacDonald, most of them as Vice President of Product Development. He grew up on a farm outside Athens, splitting time between the Appalachian forest and his father's art studio at Ohio University. Carving wood at seven. Building furniture by 1973.
Artisan, machinist, and designer. Isaac brought advanced CNC fabrication to a discipline that had always been done by hand. He works in wood, metal, and stone.
Reclaimed barn timbers. Salvaged steel. Native Appalachian hardwoods. Materials are chosen for their strength and their history. A beam that held up a barn for a century has more to say than a board off a truck. We don't force material into a shape. We ask what it wants to become and let that answer shape the outcome.
Offcuts find new purpose. Scraps become smaller pieces. Nothing wasted by choice. We source reclaimed timber, salvaged steel, and locally milled hardwoods wherever possible. Offcuts find new purpose. Scraps become smaller pieces. What can't be used becomes shop heat. Sustainability isn't a marketing line here. It's how a small shop stays profitable and how we honor material that took a century to grow.
Whether it's a single commissioned piece or a production run, we're easy to reach.
